If you want to sing exciting music to high standards in great venues, meet friendly people and enjoy your chosen hobby, then the Hertfordshire Chorus, one of the leading large choirs in the country, is the place for you. They have around 130 members from Hertfordshire and surrounding areas.
Their programmes embrace the best of the traditional repertoire plus new or less well-known works, including new commissions, with the aim of presenting concerts to stir the emotions of performers and audiences alike.
Recent concerts have included major choral works such as the Bach B Minor Mass, Mahler's 8th, Brahms Requiem, War Requirem, Berlioz Te Deum, Beethoven Missa Solemnis and Land of Light, which was the first work to be produced as a result of its New Commissions Fund. In 2006 it performed with Daniele Gatti and the RPO and with Jose Carreras amongst others. Recent venues include the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Barbican, Durham Cathedral as well as local Hertfordshire venues such as St Albans Abbey and Haileybury College Chapel. The Chorus performed in The Sage in Gateshead for the first time in July 2007. See website for details of all forthcoming concerts and events.
The choir tours abroad regularly, recent tours have been to Sicily, Seville, Perugia and most recently, Valencia and most recently, Krakow.
New singers are always welcome to come along and try out for a few rehearsals, after which entry is by singer-friendly audition. There are also a number of open rehearsals throughout the year.
