The Poetry Society exists to help poets and poetry thrive in Britain today. Established in 1909, and now one of Britain's most dynamic arts organisations, the Poetry Society is a membership organisation open to all. They promote poets and poetry in a wide variety of ways, including:
* Producing a range of excellent publications;
* Running the National Poetry Competition;
* Providing a specialist advice and information service;
* Developing projects and schemes to keep poetry flourishing in our schools;
* Running a Poetry Cafe in central London.
All new members of the Society receive a free poetry directory, a concise guide to the world of poetry.
The Poetry Cafe is the social hub of the Poetry Society. Relaxed and stylish, with freshly cooked vegetarian food, cappuccinos, cakes and beers and wines, it is the ideal place to browse through magazines, keep up to date with readings, workshops and the poetry world and explore the web.
Their light and airy first floor poetry studio provides an intimate venue for readings, regularly hosted by the Poetry Society at a discount to members.
