The Cistercian Abbey of Warden was founded 1135 by Walter Espec. The woodland around the Abbey was cleared by the monks who planted the Vineyard, which is four acres and the Great Vineyard, which is ten acres.
The Vineyard has won awards every year since its first vintage in 1990.
The wines are stocked by Hedley Wright Wine Merchants Letchworth or may be purchased (by arrangement) from the vineyard cellar at Southill Park.
Grapes are harvested in the second half of October, by which time the sugar content of the grapes are at their highest. About 12000 to 14000 bottles are produced each year.
