Artist’s Statement:
The inspiration for my oil paintings comes from subjects that I feel a connection with, and the British countryside and dancers are both things that captivate me and are ongoing themes in my work.
Although it may seem they are very different subjects, what draws me to them is their main similarity – the living, breathing movement and life in them. A wheat field can have the same energy as a dancer, and the natural fluidity of both is what I enjoy exploring. Life is never flat and texture is an important part of my paintings. I use a palette knife to paint with, using it as a means to contour the shapes within the subject.
