Artist's statement:
I paint primarily from memory and imagination in order to create paintings that are as honest and personal as possible. I have returned to creating art in a way not unlike as I did as a child in recent years; I do not mean self-conscious stylistic simplification as I am not setting myself up as a 'naive' artist, but as free from influence of other art and fashions in art as possible. Memory and imagination and the personal interpretation of these, is what fascinates me most. My technique is not dissimilar to how medieval artists worked, with a lack of concern for accuracy or painting from life, but with iconic use of visual vocabulary and an importance given to the finish and detail of the work. My work loosely centres on the theme of the artificial world - to me, art is all about escapism and the ability to create highly personal and therefore original and magical interpretations of the world.
