Artist's statement:
Nick's work (mainly paintings and mixed media wall pieces) investigates nationalism and identity in Britain (England in particular). It attempts to focus upon the inclusions and exclusions in contemporary society and the in which groups and individuals identify themselves or utilise symbols to define their identities. He is exploring the social myths and constraints that have affected his generation and his upbringing. In particular, he is questioning the cultural and racial stereotypes displayed in war comics from the early 1970s.
Nick often uses collage in his work, pom poms and tapestries. The shapes of the wall pieces he produces vary considerably as he tries to break away from the conventional square or rectangular formats of paintings.
