Living Crafts 2009 - Art, Design and Innovation - taking place over four days from Thursday 7th May to Sunday 10th May. Europes largest craft event will take place in a bespoke showground within the grounds of Hatfield House in Hertfordshire.
Literally hundreds of craftsmen and women exhibit their work alongside many fascinating displays and demonstrations. The variety of crafts represented is enormous, from rural and traditional skills such as basket making and weaving to contemporary work, including stained glass, ceramics and photography. You can see beautiful gem set gold and silver jewellery, blacksmithing, textiles and fashions or watch artisans at work, explaining techniques and giving guidelines.
Living Crafts - Art, Design and Innovation is the perfect place to try a new skill for yourself. With the emphasis very much on have-a-go activities for adults and children alike, workshops, demonstrations and lectures are ongoing throughout the show.
Jazz bands, country dancers and a string puppet theatre are just some of the entertainments on offer. Combine that with the gentle drone of steam engines, the tap, tap, tap from working blacksmiths and the delicous aroma of fresh food being cooked on site and you start to get a flavour of the 2009 show.
