The Arts Council for North Hertfordshire was established in the 1960s, mainly due to the drive and enthusiasm of George Thomas, the founding Principal of the then Hitchin College of Further Education, now North Hertfordshire College.
In principle the aims have remained the same - providing financial support and assistance to local groups and individuals for arts and arts related activities.
Since all the funding is now provided by North Herts District Council, virtually all the supported activities take part within the boundaries of District Council. The financial support is either in the form of a grant or a contribution against loss.
The Arts Council itself is a registered charity. It is unable to support events where any proceeds are intended to go to charity.
Meetings are held at the Queen Mother Theatre in Hitchin or North Herts College Centre for Arts on Wednesdays at 7.30pm every 4 to 5 weeks.
