Watercolour classes are designed to suit all painters at all levels from the complete beginner, returners/improvers as well as a class for more experienced artists.
Classes run as follows:
Monday – am Welwyn beginners; pm Welwyn improvers/returners;
Tuesday – am Welwyn advanced; pm Harpenden mixed ability;
Wednesday – am Ware mixed ability; pm Hertford afternoon group;
Thursday – am no class; pm St Albans mixed ability*;
Friday – am Welwyn Willow Watercolours group.
* Please note that the St Albans class will not run until a suitable venue and minimum of 6 people are booked.
These classes all run during term time only and have a set programme which will be covered. For beginners, this will start from the very first principles including mark making, different types of wash, monochrome paintings, appreciation of tonal values and will include several workshop sessions, for instance on learning to paint skies, trees, flowers, etc.
Throughout the terms, these classes build on the basics exploring approaches to painting, landscapes, seascapes, still-life arrangements etc, with students being encouraged to suggest subject areas they would like to explore.
Each class normally includes a brief discussion about the subject and what problems might be encountered including a short demonstration to illustrate different approaches and normally end by displaying all the work of the day for a final discussion and Q/A session.
Refreshments are normally available and there will be other opportunities to participate in additional art related activities, such as trips to galleries, outdoor painting sessions, video shows, etc. Class numbers are kept small to allow individual attention where necessary and the atmosphere is friendly, relaxing and plenty of support and encouragement.
