The Trust was set up in 1991 to provide practical help in researching, preserving and restoring historic gardens. It aims to stimulate interest in gardens of all periods and styles and an enthusiasm for their care. It also supports the design of new gardens.
The Trust also works alongside schools, the Learning Through Landscapes Trust and the County Council Landscape Group to produce imaginative schemes which enrich school grounds for a range of studies and creative play.
The Trust publishes an annual journal and newsletters twice a year. It organises illustrated talks, demonstrations, plant sales and visits to gardens, many of which are are not normally open to the public.
There are opportunities to research the history and development of gardens, to undertake and record surveys.
