The Museum, founded in the 1970's, is housed in the original Pre World War 2 Airfield Control Tower at Bassingbourn Barracks. It aims to reflect and present the history of the military presence at Bassingbourn.

There is a unique collection of artifacts, documentation and photos on show in the museum which, is open to visitors from the UK and abroad BY APPOINTMENT ONLY (this is easily arranged by telephone to the curator).

Although aiming to reflect the entire history of this Base, strong emphasis is made to the vital role it played as an airfield during the Second World War when it was home to various RAF units before being used by the 91st Bomb Group of the United States Army Air Force.

This Unit became one of the most famous of the war helped by the film(s) "Memphis Belle" which was the name of an aircraft based here which, with its crew, was first to complete 25 missions. Such was the importance of the role the 91st BG(H) played that the entire first floor is dedicated to it.

Parent organisation: Tower Museum Bassingbourn.
