The Museum has a wide variety of locomotives and rolling stock, some of which is fully restored and others which are undergoing repair. The Restoration Shed was purpose built in the 1980's and gives excellent facilities for restoration and preservation. Visitors are welcome to look around the shed and see the volunteers at work. In the workshops wide variety of machinery enables the volunteers to do most of the engineering and carpentary work on site. The Museum also has three signal boxes, two of which are regularly open to the public.
The Museum holds over thirty operating days each year, ranging from 'A Day out with Thomas' events to 'Santa Steamings'. Other special events include the Beer Festival, and Cider Festival. The Museum also has a very popular and newly extended miniature railway.
The Museum is always open to new volunteers. For further information you can ask at the Visitor Reception, or contact the Museum directly. You do not need special skills for many of the jobs and training is available in many areas.
Branch meetings covering transport topics are held in Enfield and Colchester (telephone or visit the web site for further details).
