The Redbourn Village Museum Committee was formed in September 1987, and in October 1999, the Silk Mill House, a Grade II listed building, was transferred to Redbourn Parish Council by Brooke Bond Foods Ltd. The Museum opened to the public in May 2000.
Exhibits include the 12th century priory remains, a trades and industry section and items from the collection of Ann Skillman. Schools are catered for by displays.
A "Friends of the Museum" Group caters for all ages of membership and organises an Annual Coach Tour, and visits to places of interest. This group publishes newsletters for its members with articles about Redbourn's history.
The museum is organised and operated by Redbourn Village Historical and Museum Group Ltd, registered company number 3652790.
