Baldock Museum and Local History Society

Sundays - 2.00pm to 4.00pm
Groups may visit at other times by appointment.

There is a permanent display on the History of the Town from Roman Times to the present.

A temporary display 'The Bondor' explains the origins of the large classical-frontes factory in Baldock (now Tesco) and hos it became the centre of a worldwide company, Kayser Bondor. The display is illustrated with many pictures and objects connected with the firm. (Ends May 2009).

From May 2009 there will be a new display, 'Old Prints and Drawings of Baldock', showing how the town has been depicted in the past particularly before the Advent of Photography.

The Museum has a number of local history books and booklets for sale.

There are four talks organised for 2009:

* Thursday 26th March: 'Slide for Old Baldock', a selection from the collection of Frank Newman - by Brendan King.

* Thursday 28th May: 'More Thoughts on Ancient Baldock', from NHDC's Archaeology Officer - by Keith Fitzpatrick-Matthews.

* Thursday 23rd July: 'Memories of Kayser Bondor', A slide show and recollections of the factory - by Neville Chuck.

* Thursday 24th September: AGM and quiz evening.

* Thursday 26th November: 'Rambles around the History of Wallington' - by Dan Pinnock.

All talks start at 8.00pm in the Community Centre, Simpson Drive, Baldock, Hertfordshire SG7 6DH. Everyone welcome, non-members £1.00.

The Society researches, records, presents and promotes the history of Baldock and its locality and collects and displays items of local historical interest.
