Baldock Museum, Baldock Town Hall, Hitchin Street, Baldock, Hertfordshire SG7 6AX.

* Opening Times:
Wednesday from 11.00am to 1.30pm
Sundays - 2.00pm to 4.00pm
Groups may visit at other times by appointment.

* Admission:
25p for adults

There is a permanent display on the History of the Town from Roman Times to the present.

There is also a temporary display of old prints, drawings and paintings of the 1780s-1930s with explanations of the views and notes on some of the artists (this display will end in May 2010).

A smaller display on the staircase is about the history of the Pryor family in Baldock. The Pryors were the principal maltsters, brewers and landowners in 19th Century Baldock (this display will end in 2010, please telephone before travelling).

From May 2010 there will be a new display on the SERL, the Services Electronic Research Laboroatory in Baldock and its work on on microwaves and lasers (this display will end in May 2010).

The Museum has a number of local history books, etc for sale.

There are five talks organised for 2010:
  • Thursday 28th January: 'Food for Thought': Meat and Mouring in Roman Baldock by Dr Natalie White of Cambridge University.
  • Thursday 25th March: 'Educating Our Own': 200 years of Hitchin British School by Terry Ranoom.
  • Thursday 27th May: '800 years of Baldock Fair' by Brendan King.
  • Thursday 22nd July: 'Dan Albone, The Biggleswade Inventor' by Judy Flack.
  • Thursday 23rd September: AGM, Quiz & Buffet.
  • Thursday 25th November: 'The Great Northern Railway, 1850-1923': A short history by Ted Martin.

All talks start at 8.00pm in the Community Centre, Simpson Drive, Baldock, Hertfordshire SG7 6DH. Everyone welcome, non-members £1.00.

The Society researches, records, presents and promotes the history of Baldock and its locality and collects and displays items of local historical interest.

Individual - £3.00

Members have free entry to the talks and to the museum and receive two newsletters a year. Please contact for further details.
