The aim of Stevenage Society for Local History is to promote and encourage interest in the history of Stevenage and the surrounding area.
Society activities include:
* research into the origin and development of local buildings, crafts and trade;
* arranging exhibitions, short courses, lectures and visits to sites of local interest;
* the publication of booklets and information sheets;
* supporting the work of Stevenage Museum;
* encouraging the conservation of historic features within the town.
The season of evening meetings begins each September and ends in May. Evening meetings generally include a local history talk given by an invited speaker. They are held at 8.00pm in the lecture hall at Stevenage Museum, on the second Monday of each month.
Visits to places of local historic interest are arranged for the summer months.
