The Historical Association aims to promote history in its widest sense. It offers publications, lectures and courses for specialists and teachers. The local lectures are open to members of the general public.

Upon joining the national Organisation, a member automatically becomes a member of the local branch.

Venue: Meets at the Backhouse Room, Handside Lane, Welwyn Garden City. Lectures begin at 3.00pm, unless otherwise stated.

Membership offers:
* Information on the above, plus a quarterly magazine, the 'Historian';
* Other journals at a discount (History, Teaching History, Annual Bulletin of Historical Literature);
* Day conferences;
* Visits to historic sites.

* 13th October 2007: 'Horses, Women and Houses' Life and work of William Cavendish, first Duke of Newcastle, 1593-1676; Preceded at 2.30pm by the Branch AGM;
* 10th November 2007: 'The National Service League' 1902-1914 by Dr Roger T Stearn;
* 8th December 2007: 'The Medieval Duchy of Normandy' by Professor David Bates, Institute of Historical Research;
* 19th January 2008: 'The First Terrorist: The Jacobins in the French Revolution by Dr Marisa Linton, School of Social Sciences Kingston University;
* 23rd February 2008: 'The Changing Face of Hertfordshire: 1000 to 2000 AD' by Mr David Short;
* 29th March 2008: 'Robert Boyle and the Scientific Revolution by Dr Charles Littleton, History of Parliament.
