The aim of the Society is to encourage the study and appreciation of local history, genealogy and other subjects of historical interest.
Monthly meetings are held from September until March at 8pm in the Civic Centre. The talks, mostly illustrated with slides, are on a variety of subjects connected with local history.
During the summer months outings are organised to places of historical interest and there are occasional evening visits with conducted walks to nearby towns and villages.
Every encouragement will be given to those members who wish to pursue local history research.
The Society's collection of archives and artefacts is deposited in the Dacorum Heritage Trust Museum Store in Berhamsted (a registered museum). Items from the collection are displayed from time to time in local exhibitions. The collection is available for research purposes by prior arrangement with The Curator or Mr J Honour, the Society's archivist.
The Percy Birtchnell Memorial Prize is awarded annually to a two children in Year 4 of Victoria First School in memory of Percy Birtchnell, an old boy of the school and a founder member of the Society. The Society journal 'The Chronicle' is published each month.
Why not come along to one of the Society's meetings? The annual subscription is only £6.00 per person or £10.00 for couples; admission at the door for non-members is £2.50.
Date of AGM: March.
