The Federation of Family History Societies (FFHS) is an educational charity based in the UK, which exists to represent and support its membership of family history societies and other genealogical organisations world-wide. Essex Society for Family History (ESFH) is a member of the FFHS and was established more than 25 years ago.
Meetings of the North West Branch (est. 1987) are held at the Baptist Church, Lower Hall, Audley Road enterance, Saffron Walden, on the second Thursday of each month from 8.00pm. Our programme is based on an educational and participative mix encompassing parish record transcription, including the National Burial Index project coupled with visiting speakers covering mainly social history; the aim being to appeal to, and embrace, all family historians no matter what their experience or background. Please visit the main ESFH website where you will find our full programme of events together with our regular monthly report of activities.
ESFH aims to promote and encourage the public study of British Family History, genealogy, heraldry and local history and to support the preservation, security and accessibility or archival material.
Join ESFH by contacting your local branch and enjoy the benefits of membership including a quarterly copy of the Society magazine 'The Essex Family Historian'; help facilities and reduced charges for their Search and Courier services. They also have a local Branch Network, a Postal Bookshop and a Research Centre at Chelmsford.
