The Stroke Association is the only national charity dealing with stroke in people of all ages. They offer a one off welfare grant for which an application must be made by a professional, sucg as, a GP, social worker or physiotherapist. The association's: Stroke Information Service provides timely, accurate and personalised information. The service is delivered through a dedicated helpline, including a multilingual service, emails and letters.
The Stroke Association also:
* Produces a free quarterly magazine, Stroke News, six core leaflets, 40 factsheets and a number of resource sheets covering the many unique aspects of stroke. These can all be downloaded free of charge for the information section of the Stroke Association website.
* Encourages the formation of stroke clubs of which there are currently around 500.
* Organises help from a Communication Support Officer who offer a rehabilition service for people who have lost the power of speech due to a stroke.
* Provides Family and Carers Support Organisers who help to prepare families for the challenge of life after a stroke.
