Crusaid is a pioneering grant-maker, supporting poor and marginalised people and communities affected by HIV and Aids. Crusaid works in the UK and internationally to provide knowledge and prevention, economic support, social support and access to treatment and services.
Our UK projects fighting HIV related poverty have provided support across the UK sector to raise the quality of clinical care, promote education and awareness of the virus and support community projects in the advancement of good practice and advocacy.
The Crusaid Hardship Fund is Crusaid’s largest UK programme. The purpose of the Fund is to assist where a specific HIV-related need presents itself. Since 1988, the Crusaid Hardship Fund has distributed over 40,000 grants worth a total of £8.1 million. One in three of all people diagnosed with HIV in the UK have been supported by the Fund at some stage in their lives.
Crusaid’s international funding is currently focussed on Africa. By funding innovative, community-based projects we are able to lay the foundations to long term change. For example a rundown railway station in Sir Lowry’s Pass, east of Cape Town has been turned into a centre where 300 people a day – including many children orphaned by Aids – come to eat, wash and get emotional and practical support.
Since 1986 Crusaid has channelled over £18 million to projects through our charitable work.
Crusaid’s events raise money and awareness of Crusaid’s charitable activities. Crusaid’s Walk for Life is the largest event of the year. The 10k walk is Europe’s largest fundraising walk for HIV and Aids. Sponsorship raised provides support to some of the most impoverished people in the UK and Africa.
