The Alzheimer's Society is the leading care and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers.

Dementia affects over 700,000 people in the UK alone. Alzheimer's Society has over 25,000 members and works through a network of 260 branches and support groups. It provides information and support for people with any form of dementia and their carers through its publications, helplines, website and local network. It advises professionals, runs quality care services and campaigns for improved health and socil care and greater understanding of dementia. The Society funds an innovative programme of biomedical and social research in the areas of cause, cure and care.

Alzheimer's Society operates in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

National Helpline: 0845 300 0336 Monday-Friday 8.30am-6.30pm. Local BT rates apply for calls from BT land lines. Other companies may charge more.

Dementia Knowledge Centre: the library houses a collection of health and social care literature relating to dementia, available for reference to external visitors. The centre is a dementia-friendly environent with study space and web access. Visitors are welcome by appointment.

Dementia catalogue: our specialist web-based database and search engine has over 11,000 records, books, reports, journal articles, videos/DVDs and training resources - many will access to full-text.

Membership: Membership is free for people with dementia and their carers. There are suggested subscription rates for others.

Publications: we produce a range of free publications, factsheets, books and a monthly membership magazine.
