The Leukaemia Research Fund is the only national charity devoted exclusively to research into the leukaemias and the related cancers of the blood in children and adults.
The research programme is planned and co-ordinated at National level and involves teams of scientists and doctors based in major medical schools, universities and teaching hospitals across the U.K.
Their role in funding, co-ordinating and developing this complex research initiative is essential because only by way of national strategy can it be possible to ensure that new developments benefit patients throughout the country as quickly as possible.
Funding extends from short term individual projects addressing specific questions to major core specialist programmes undertaking the longer term work investigating the aspects of these diseases in more detail.
Encouragement and practical support is also given to young doctors who have the skills, dedication and determination to become the leading blood cancer experts of the future.
