The Birth Defects Foundation was founded by parents, doctors and business people in 1991. Its mission is to improve child health, aid families and create awareness of the challenges of birth defects to child health: Health for babies, Hope for families.

BDF's Here to Help Service is manned by nurses who run this national service offering confidential support to those affected by, at risk of, or concerned about birth defects.

The BDF also funds research, dissemination of information, training of professionals and equipment for diagnosis. It funds the Noonan Syndrome Research Unit at St George's Hospital Medical School, London.

BDF Newlife also provides a child and family grant service. The service exists to help those who need it, perhaps to buy special equipment, but who would otherwise face a lengthy wait. Their fast decisions mean that they can grant immediate help just where it is needed. A little help at the right time, can make such a difference.
