The Friendship scheme is funded by the Herts Partnership NHS Foundation Trust For Mental Health and recruits volunteers to work with clients in the community suffering from long-term mental health problems. Schemes are operating in North Herts, Stevenage and Welwyn Hatfield.
The role of the befriender involves visiting the client once a week or fortnight for social activity such as visits to the cinema, shopping and coffee, sporting activities ie swimming and visits to the gym. It could also mean just tea and a chat.
Volunteers are trained and receive out of pocket expenses. Please contact for further information. The Scheme can be used as placement for health and social care courses and as experience for counselling courses.
