Antenatal Results and Choices (ARC)

ARC provides non-directive support for parents, throughout antenatal testing and decision making. Practical information and support to parents when an abnormality is diagnosed in their unborn baby. Continued support is also offered to parents whatever decision is made about the future of the pregnancy.

Information and support is provided to these parents and also health professonals. There is a support network, email group and booklets, a helpline, parents' meetings, newletters, conference and training are given to professionals.

Around 700,000 women become pregnant every year and everyone of those will be offered some form of testing. Many parents want to discuss these tests in more detail when they are deciding whether to have them or not.

As a result of these tests more than 35,000 women are told that there is a risk that thier unborn baby may have a serious abnormality. As well as information, ARC provides the emotional support which families need while they are waiting for the results of further testing.
