The structure of Primary Care Trusts (PCTS) in Hertfordshire has changed. From 1st October 2006 the number of PCTs has been reduced from eight to two.
East and North Hertfordshire Primary Care Trust has been formed by the merger of North Hertfordshire and Stevenage PCT, Royston, Buntingford and Bishop's Stortford PCT, South East Hertfordshire PCT and Welwyn and Hatfield PCT.
West Hertfordshire Primary Care Trust has been formed by the merger of Dacorum PCT, Hertsmere PCT, St Albans and Harpenden PCT and Watford and Three Rivers PCT.
Primary Care Trusts are responsible for GP practices and for services provided by Community Pharmacists, Dentists and Opticians. They work to improve the health of local people, develop primary and community services, advise the Health Authority and purchase hospital services on behalf of local people. They work closely with the County and District councils, the health authority and other Primary Care Trusts.
