Jan Toms is a professional, qualified and experienced counsellor, a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and in the BACP's online therapist directory. Jan works both in private practice in Kings Langley and for a voluntary agency in St Albans. She also undertakes work for EAPs.

Jan's training as a Person-Centred therapist very much underpins the way she is with clients; she aspires to offer the core conditions of acceptance, unconditional positive regard and empathy, believing that we all have the potential to create meaningful and fulfilling lives for ourselves if given a nurturing environment and acceptance and encouragement from our significant others.

Jan also believes that it is the relationship between counsellor and client that is key in enabling a successful and creative outcome. It is important that the client feels at ease with and able to talk freely with the counsellor for the work to be effective and with this in mind, Jan offers a free half-hour "getting to know each other" assessment session with no obligations on either part to take things further at this stage.

Jan specialises in bereavement counselling and support both with individuals and groups, with several years experience working with a local bereavement network agency in St Albans. This work, together with continuing professional training in this field, enables Jan to walk confidently and compassionately with clients on their unique grief journey, adjusting to life after loss.
