Summary This organisation is also known as BADFA.
Formed in 1991 as a result of a feeling amongst some local residents that the paths in or near their doorsteps were an interesting and valuable asset that might repay some extra care.
The group aims to:-
* provide and look after all the paths in and near Bushey, Watford, Aldenham and part of Three Rivers and to a lesser extent the paths in the wider area which was covered by the Watford Fieldpath Association, roughly a rectangle with St Albans and Rickmansworth at opposite corners;
* to keep records of the paths and the flowers and animals near them;
* to explore their history;
* to help people understand what can and what can't be done to paths.
The group get involved on all aspects of path work, drafting and pursuing dedications of new paths, also of diversions where there is substantial public gain.
The group is particularly involved in giving access for all legitimate paths users, especially disabled people. They are experts on path structure to achieve this. For example wheelchair and pushchair friendly kissing gates. They convert stiles to gaps or kissing gates whenever they get the chance and can offer technical advice.
Other activities:- meetings, arrange walks, publish maps, produce newsletters, put up signposts, do clearance and improvement work.
They are (founder) members of the Parish Path Partnership (administered by the Countryside Management Service - CMS) which provides some funding for local paths initiatives.
The Watford Fieldpath Association (founded in 1899) is now incorporated within BADFA.
Membership is £6.00 per annum (2008).
