The UK charity taking action to save butterflies, moths and their habitats.
Over the last fifty years many species of butterfly and moth have declined dramatically in both abundance and range. More and half our native butterfly are under threat and five are already extinct in the UK.
Working with a wide range of partners, Butterfly Conservation is taking action to conserve butterflies, moths and their habitats by:
* Advising landowners and managers on conserving and restoring important habitats;
* Purchasing and managing land for threatened butterflies, moths and other wildlife;
* Carrying out surveys, monitoring and other essential research;
* Lobbying Government and its agencies to influence land use policy.
In addition to its national and regional staff, the Society has 11,500 members and a network of branches of locally-active volunteers throughout the UK. Butterfly Conservation is therefore able to work at all levels to conserve these beautiful creatures and to restore the important habitats needed for their future.
