The University of Bedfordshire has approximately 16,000 students and 1,200 members of staff, making it the largest university and provider of higher education in Bedfordshire.
The Guardian 2007 league tables have placed Bedfordshire third in the country for Media related courses and 12th for Sport. In addition, the University itself has moved up 24 places in the league tables, according to the Sunday Times.
What’s more, in the 2007 National Student Survey results, the University was placed 28th in the country, after climbing into the top 25 per cent of all institutions for student satisfaction. Our students also ranked Journalism fifth in the country, Law seventh, Business 15th and Marketing 16th in the UK.
And to top it all off, the University was runner up for the prestigious title of University of the Year in the Times Higher Education Supplement awards. This achievement is particularly impressive as it reflects just how much the University has achieved in its first year as the University of Bedfordshire.
The University has invested £60m into its main campuses in Bedford and Luton, which has provided students with an extensive range of state-of-the-art facilities and equipment including a new £5.5m Media Arts Centre, a £7.8m Learning Resources Centre, £1.2m Business Pods, an £8m Physical Education and Sport Science Centre that is set to be used to train athletes in the 2012 Olympics, and a £6m Campus Centre boasting a £4.5m 280-seat theatre, dance studios, a fair trade restaurant and social space for students.
£20m has also been invested into new student accommodation, providing 500 en-suite study bedrooms at Bedford, and a further £1m into improving the Luton Halls of Residence. All first year students are guaranteed a place within the University’s halls.
The Students’ Union hosts a wide variety of entertainment and social events throughout the academic year. The Union also runs a selection of clubs and societies, including Athletics, Basketball, Drama, Football, Luton FM radio and many more, all of which enable students to pursue an interest with like-minded students.
