The WEA is a group of local people who arrange friendly and informal courses on subjects of interest. They belong to a non-sectarian, non-political and non-profit making organisation founded by Albert Mansbridge in 1903 to promote Adult Education.
The St Albans Branch of the WEA has been running courses since 1913. The only qualification a student is required to have is an interest in the subject. There are no examinations and some of their day-time courses have a creche.
WEA stands for Workers' Educational Association.
