The ADP aims to improve education, training and employment opportunities for disabled people and to improve public knowledge of the capabilities, needs and problems of disabled people, particularly in relation to education and employment.
Activities of the Association fall into three main areas. The first is the provision of advice, information and peer support to very many disabled people, and to their advisors and friends. This work focuses mainly on employment, education, training and related issues, but if they know, or can point the way to further help, they will. Most contact is by telephone or email. Many members are also willing to give advice in relation to their particular area of employment or expertise.
The second main area is Parliamentary. The ADP works quietly and efficiently to try to ensure that legislation and the like, which will directly affect the lives of disabled people, takes their needs and legitimate aspirations into account.
Finally, the ADP operates the Disabled Entrepreneurs' Network (DEN). DEN acts as a signpost service for accessible and appropriate training and development to disabled entrepreneurs and assists in looking at strategic issues around disability, small business management and self-employment.
The ADP has member focus groups on issues, such as education and employment. They produce the ADP Quarterly - journal for members - as well as supporting research into the employment of disabled people.
