The Friendship Scheme aims to enable adults who have learning disabilities to access social and leisure opportunities on a one to one basis, within a safe and meaningful relationship with someone other than their carer. Also to provide carers with regular time away from their responsibilities of caring for an adult with a learning disability.
The scheme matches volunteers and clients through an induction process, volunteers have a wide variety of interests which are shared with the clients through trips, outings, clubs, etc. The benefits of the scheme for clients are, becoming part of community life, developing friendships, sharing common interests and increasing their self confidence outside of carers and family.
