Mencap Watford provides support and services to people with learning disabilities, their families and carers living in South West Hertfordshire (Watford, Three Rivers and Hertsmere) by campaigning for improvements and working to raise public awareness of the needs of people with learning disabilities.

Mencap Watford also provides the following services:

* A children's centre in Watford for social activities and respite for families.

* The Advice Service - help and advice is given to families with children who have learning disabilities. Counselling is also available.

* The Community Service Team provides professional care for people with learning disabilities in their homes and provides transport when necessary.

* Holiday play schemes are run for 3 to 19 year olds with learning disabilities; children who also have physical disability are welcomed.

* A scheme for young people who attend college is organised in the holidays to provide outings, activities and work experience.

* Leisure Together recruits volunteers to be companions to people with learning disability in their leisure time.

* There are two Mencap charity shops in Bushey and in Watford. Opportunities for volunteer work exist in the charity shop, play schemes, Leisure Together and advice service. CRB checks will be required.

The membership fee is £5.00 and non-obligatory.

Watford Mencap also provides residential accommodation and supported housing for adults living in the community:

Three Rivers District
Supported housing (shared or self contained) has floating/visiting support with an alarm/on call system. The scheme is for single people aged 18 to 84 and can be accessed via referral from Watford and Three Rivers Primary Care Trust; Three Rivers District Council. Housing Department; Hertfordshire County Council. Adult Care Services; Self referral.

Watford Borough
Supported Housing (shared of self contained) with floating/visiting support and an alarm/on call system. The scheme is open to single people, aged 18 to 84 and can be accessed via referral from Watford and Three Rivers Primary Care Trust; Three Rivers District Council. Housing Department; Hertfordshire County Council. Adult Care Services; Self referral.

Watford and District Mencap Society is a registered charity.

Office opening hours: Monday-Friday 9.00am-5.00pm.
