Formed in 1951, the aims of this local Mencap Society are:
* To increase public awareness and understanding of the problems faced by people with learning disabilities.
* To advise and support parents whenever possible by the provision of welfare services, minibus transportation for clubs, social groups, etc and the provision of a holiday cottage.
* To help parents overcome their feelings of isolation by arranging social events, and to press local authorities and government for steady improvement in provision of all kinds for learning disabled children and adults.
