The Friendship Scheme aims to enable adults with learning disabilities to access local leisure and social activities. This is done by linking them on a 1:1 basis to a volunteer befriender. Matches are made according to compatibility and many strong friendships have been made.
All volunteers provide two references, are police checked and are fully trained. Volunteers receive on-going support and out of pocket expenses. There are social events for all members of the pocket scheme.
The scheme has many benefits for both clients and befrienders, and also provides carers with regular breaks from their responsibilities.
The service covers Dacorum Borough and is funded by Carer's Breaks.
ROAR (Recreational Opportunities Allowing Respite) is a new scheme. ROAR aims to provide a varied programme of outings and activities within the community for adults with learning disabilities. Members improve their social lives, try new things and make friends, at the same time their carers receive breaks.
Activities are organised and lead by they co-ordinator, assisted by trained volunteers.
The service covers Dacorum Borough and is funded by carer's breaks.
