Aims to enable people with a dual sensory impairment to live full and active lives despite their disability.
Activities include:-
* training in Deafblind awareness, basic communication and guiding and deafblind interpreting skills.
* They encourage all health and welfare workers and many service providers to take at least a basic course to ensure quality service provision. Please ask for training booklet;
* visiting/assessing deafblind individuals;
* contributing to individual community care plans;
* information and advice on dual sensory loss;
* counselling;
* special counsellor who is trained to communicate with and understand deafblind people;
* produce Braille, Moon, large print and tape versions of papers/reports/letters aimed at deafblind people. Prices available on request.
* social activities for deafblind people;
* holiday flats;
* organise themed activity breaks;
* rehabilitation services;
* Support for families, friends and carers;
* Free helpline Tel 0800 132320 for deafblind people and those who support them;
* Deafblind UK are represented on all the major national groups concerned with deafblindness;
* provision of touch based telecommunications to enable communication via the telephone.
