The aim of Calibre is to improve the quality of life of blind, partially sighted and print disabled people of all ages by providing a free postal library of unabridged books recorded in a format that can be played on a commercially available listening device.
Anybody living in the UK and Ireland unable to read printed books in the usual way can join Calibre. Organisations may join as group members.
The library holds over 7,000 titles including some 1000 specially recorded for children.
Books are delivered free by post. The library has catalogues available in large print, CD-Rom and on the website.
Calibre has nearly 20,000 members including 1000 under 16 years.
The service is free. Some members make voluntary donations but there is no obligation to do so.
