Network 81 offers practical help and support to parents of children with special educational needs/disabilities and throughout all stages of assessment and statementing as outlined in the Education Act 1996 SEN Code of Practice. Their national helpline offers an individual service linked to a national network of local contacts. They can also offer advice and information on communication with schools and give guidelines on how to choose a school, exclusion, transition, bullying, appeals to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tutorial (SENDIST).
Network 81 produces a range of literature aimed at familiarising parents with the assessment and statementing procedures. Many parents find their Statements Handbook particularly useful. They also organise Independent Parent Supporter training courses each year. 'Bespoke' training courses are also available for voluntary groups on request.
