This endowed charity, founded in 1712, gives grants to needy young people aged 11-35 to help with expenses arising from education. Priority is given to eligible applicants with the surname Kentish or who are related to the founder, but some grants are awarded each year to young people resident in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
The trustees are especially keen to assist young people who are taking courses which lead to employment. Grants for postgraduate study are awarded only where there are special circumstances. Grants are also not normally awarded to youn people eligible for the Educational Maintenance Allowance.
Applications are usually considered once a year, in October, and need to be submitted by the end of August. Forms available from the Clerk to the Trustees.
