* high ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying by each Rotarian of their occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
* the application of the ideal of service by every Rotarian to their personal, business and community life;
* the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional people united in the ideal of service.
Speakers on a wide range of topics are invited to most meetings.
The Rotary Club of Hemel Hempstead was founded in 1934 and currently has 32 members, men and women.
Rotary helps both individuals and charities seeking help and financial support. The Hemel Club's events have included sponsored Darts Marathons, Dinner Dances and quizzes raising thousands of pounds for local charities.
Work in the community covers events such as a Carol Service and tea for over 200 elderly people, evenings of entertainment for the visually impaired and their carers, and the District Kids Out event at Whipsnade for children from special schools. Rotarians chauffeur all guests on these occasions. The Club also promotes youth activities, e.g Youthspeaks, (a schools public speaking competition), a primary school essay competition, a technology tournament and 'young chef' for secondary schools.
