The Bishop Simeon Trust exists to support, through education and welfare projects, those most disadvantaged South Africans who still suffer from the inequalities and injustices of apartheid and its economic and social legacy. In recent years, combating the HIV/AIDS pandemic has become a primary focus of our work. We always respond to the initiatives of our partners - local people who are working to improve their lives and communities at a grassroots level.
Examples of HIV projects include home based care for people living with HIV/AIDS, pre-schools and day care centres for orphans and vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS, and a youth theatre project designed to empower young people to protect themselves against the illness.
Education and other projects include scholarships for black students in higher education, support libraries and information centres where people can learn computer skills, adult learning initiatives, a centre for the disabled and income-generating schemes focusing on women and other vulnerable groups.
We are primarily a fund raising organisation and have around 700 highly committed supporters around the UK who give their time and energy on a regular basis to raise funds for our vital work in South Africa.
