Wheathampstead Community Group is a registered charity that aims to provide help and support to any resident of the village. WCG is run and supported by a group of volunteers with a wide range of skills.
Our current principal activity is through our team of drivers who provide transport mainly to hospitals, clinics, surgeries and dentists. In addition we are able to offer a restricted amount of social support including, lunch outings for old or lonely people and shopping for housebound people.
With a view to expanding the work we do in the village we have recently set up a Patient Participation Group with the support of The Village Surgery. The objectives of the Wheathampstead PPG are to act as a patient partnership with the village doctors and arm to support to:
* Improve communication between doctors and patients and the quality of service offered to patients;
* Contribute constructive ideas to help shape the future policies and direction of the Village Surgery.
* Create opportunities to explore and implement improvements highlighted by Wheathampstead patients.
We are also starting an internet cafe at the Hilldyke Centre. Initially we are aiming to have 2 sessions a week for adults who do not have access to computers and 2 sessions a week after school for young people. We hope to have an office at the Hilldyke Centre for a few hours a week to be a focus for our activities.
