Venue: Waltham Cross Playing Fields.
Times: Boxing Day (26th December) 12.00pm.
1909 was the very first match with the proceeds being shared between three local hospitals: The Prince of Wales, Waltham Abbey and Cheshunt Cottage.
It was founded by local businessmen and shopkeepers, and had as its patron Admiral of the Fleet, Sir Hedworth Meux of Theobalds Park.
Originally played on the Cheshunt Recreation Ground at Albury Ride, the match was transferred to Waltham Cross Playing Fields after the Second World War. The war between Bakers & Sweeps has continued to the present day, by popular local support and remains one of the few local historical events that remain not only in the Borough of Broxbourne, but throughout England.
As well as their Traditional Flour and Soot Football Massacre, they also hold a pre-match dance just before Christmas at The Wolsey Hall, where you can go and have a fun-filled evening and enjoy a top class disco.
Also a Five-a-Side Tournament, takes place during the Summer, which is held at The Country Club, Theobalds Park, Lieutenant Ellis Way, Cheshunt. So you can see that their Boxing Day Football Massacre is just a part of the long history of their successful Charity raising events. Last year they were able to present £4,600 to their three chosen charities, namely: Cheshunt Age Concern, Isabel Hospice Specialist Nurses and The Herts and Essex Border Branch of The Friends of The Samaritans.
To enable it to flourish they need your support, so please do all you can to go along to any of their events held throughout the year.
Date of AGM: Last Monday in January.
