Contact the Elderly

Contact the Elderly is a national charity founded in 1965 with 250 groups across the country. Currnetly there are groups in St Albans and Hertford. One Sunday a month four to six local volunteer drivers each collect an elderly person or two from their home and take them to the home of a volunteer host where they join other members of the group for Sunday tea. Each month a different host is visited.

This free service is aimed at those over 70 who live alone, unsupported by family and are unable to get out on their own. Members need to be mobile enough to get out of a car with assistance. Drivers with cars and a Sunday afternoon to spare once a month would be welcomed, as would volunteers willing to entertain a group in their own home for tea once a year, a downstairs toilet is essential.
