The RNLI is a registered charity which exists to save life at sea. It provides an on-call 24 hour lifeboat service necessary to cover search and rescue requirements to 50 miles out of the coast of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
Water Safety focus on saving life at sea through education and prevention.
Lifeguards are now part of the RNLI family and have become as much a part of their lifesaving business as their lifeboat crews.
There is a junior section called "Storm Force" for under 16's to join, and membership for adult members entitles them to a copy of the quarterly journal "Lifeboat". The RNLI depends entirely on voluntary contributions for its income.
