The Granta Montessori School is a private nursery school whose purpose is to provide a child based prepared environment and a secure and happy place for your child to acquire a solid foundation for the person he/she is to become. The School is a multi educational institution open to children of all races, creeds and national origins, with or without disabilities. Continual and highly successful Ofsted reports bear testimony to our commitment to the children.
The school’s philosophy is based on the principle that education involves the development of self-motivated, responsible and self disciplined children who will achieve their fullest inherent potential. Through activities which start at the early age, we bring children independent learning and self-initiative. Self esteem is built as a result of the recognition given to the unique talents of each child. We teach the fundamental Montessori philosophy of having a love of nature and a deep sense of responsibility for others as well as the environment in which we live. Staff/Directresses work within framework of individually defined expectation based on each child’s ability, offering a consistent routine in a secure ordered environment. Our goal is to develop the child’s ability to communicate and co-operate and to accept and master new experiences. Since each child is unique, the timing of various developmental stages will vary slightly for each individual child and it is our firm practice to follow closely the philosophy, which is, to give but not indulge, serve but not stifle, allow freedom but not licence.
Our primary aim is to maintain the founding principles of Montessori education, inspired by the development needs and characteristics of the child. At the same time the school is committed to explore ways through which these principles can meet the changing needs of our times. The school works to fulfilling the Early Years Foundation Stage requirements of the DfEE, within the framework of the Montessori philosophy. Our Montessori classroom provides a positive learning environment that stimulates and nurtures the child’s natural curiosity and desire for knowledge. The child learns through exploring the prepared environment. We encourage the development of self-confidence and, belief in their ability and self-motivation. The children are helped to acquire self discipline and mutual respect for one another through spontaneous work. With this approach we provide the child with a solid foundation for his/her later life and help him/her to develop into a happy, well-rounded, responsible and fulfilled person. The child who attends the Granta Montessori School will have an enjoyable experience of learning that will enable him/her to go on to further education and life as a balanced individual.
