Welwyn Under-Fives Playgroup

We believe that pre-school is the first stepping-stone to nursery school and beyond and is a way of getting children ready for educational routines, giving them listening skills etc. and is a great way to build their social skills whilst nurturing independence and confidence.

The focus of early years is that children should learn through play and our planning is focused on the 6 areas of learning and development so that anything they play with should have a knock on learning benefit.

Each week the Pre-school uses different themes, eg. Seasons, festivals, shapes, colours, etc. The themes are brought into all sort of things, from the food we serve at snack time, to the songs we sing, the stories we read, how we set up our role play area and of course flow through our wall displays.

We ensure that our staff meet all Ofsted qualifications requirements and are aiming to exceed these by 2009.

As a registered charity Welwyn Under 5s is funded by a mixture of state, fees and charitable contributions, guaranteeing an active social agenda throughout the school year.

Our Toddler Group offers a taster of early years education for carers and children to share including: freeplay and crafts, a snack and song time.
