Playgroup sessions run at Ashwell Village Hall, West End, Ashwell, Hertfordshire SG7 5PJ.
Run by a team of dedicated trained staff, and supported by a committee of enthusiastic volunteers, Ashwell Playgroup is a registered charity offering pre-school education to children aged between 2 years 6 mths and 4 years old. Operating at the Village Hall, sessions run from 9.30am to 12.00 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during school term time.
Learning through play, children develop a broad range of skills in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Following the early years curriculum guidelines, a wide range of activities is available both indoors and out, these include:-
* Arts and crafts * Singing * Music and movement * Cooking
* Physical play * Role play * Construction toys * Ball skills
* Story time * Turn taking games * Puppets * Outings and visits
The highlights for 2007 were:-
* Artificial grass in garden * Reading with yr 6 school pupils
* Trip to Standalone Farm * Divali storyteller * Dinky Dancers sessions * End of term parties
In November the OFSTED inspector judged Ashwell Playgroup’s provision to be good in every category. The inspection report says "Children clearly enjoy the harmonious atmosphere and actively participate in a good range of purposeful activities. They are making good progress in their learning, self-esteem and development."
