During early years sessions children are expertly introduced to all the elements which make up music. They build skills in pitch, pulse, rhythm, improvisation, music reading, co-ordination and explore the expression qualities of music. They also build social skills of co-operation, participation, contribution, leading and following and taking turns. At this early stage simple and more abstract musical concepts are absorbed unconsciously, laying foundations for intuitive understanding and the ability to articulate complex musical ideas later on.
All materials used have been developed by the foundation through testing with the children and are unique to the programme. They have roots in the Kodaly methods of music education and eurythmics is an important part of the sessons.
